There are a lot of people complaining about joint pain. A lot of it is preventable, and treatable. One of the most common forms of pain in joints is cartilage degeneration. When this condition is advanced enough, it’s called osteoarthritis. Arthritis is a general term that means inflammation of the joints. It’s associated with a breakdown of the cartilage in the joint and can occur in almost any joint int he body. It is most common in the hips, knees and spine, the weight bearing joints of the body. It can ocur in other joints, but is found in joints that occur the most stress.

Cartilage is basically the shock absorber of the joint. Osteoarthritis causes the joint to become stiff and  lose its elasticity, thus losing its shock absorbing capabilities. Over time the cartilage can wear away, causing pain. If the condition gets worse, the bones can begin to rub against each other.
